Given my financial situation, should I choose an investment advisory service? Why or why not?
You should choose an investment advisory service if you have funds that are not needed for everyday expenses or emergencies and you would like to engage an adviser with a fiduciary duty to evaluate and make investment decisions on your behalf. As an SEC registered investment adviser, Path by Origin is required to act as a fiduciary for its clients, which means we must always act in our clients’ best interest. Some people prefer to make their own investment decisions and may therefore choose to use a broker-dealer that offers investment recommendation that the investor may evaluate on its own. This may avoid management fees, so that those investors only pay brokerage fees when they make a transaction. The advantage of using an adviser such as Path is that we can help you manage your investment risk and achieve your goals.
Help me understand how fees and costs might affect my investments. If I give you $10,000 to invest, how much will go to fees and costs, and how much will be invested for me?
The fees that you pay us will impact the value of your account over time. If you gave us $10,000 dollars to invest, we would invest the full $10,000 for you. For an investment of that size, we charge an annual wrap fee of 0.50% on the daily average balance of assets in your account. If you maintain a daily average balance of $10,000, approximately $4.11 each month (or approximately $50 each year) would be deducted for fees. If the value of your account goes up (because, for example, your investments appreciate), our fee would be higher than $4.11 for that month, and if the value of your account goes down (because, for example, you withdraw some of your funds or there is a market downturn), our fee would be lower than $4.11 for that month.
How might your conflicts of interest affect me, and how will you address them?
As a fiduciary, we are legally required to act in your best interest at all times in our relationship with you. Nevertheless, our business model, which compensates us based on assets under management, incentivizes us to recommend you increase the value of your Path account. We seek to address this conflict by providing a lower annual wrap fee for clients who increase their investments above $99,999.
Please review our Form ADV Part 2 for additional information on other potential conflicts.
Do you have any disciplinary history? For what type of conduct?
Path by Origin does not have a disciplinary history, nor is Path involved in any other legal matters that would have a significant impact on its advisory business. Visit Investor.gov/CRS for a free and simple search tool to research us and our financial consultants, or you can visit or adviserinfo.sec.gov/.
Who is my primary contact person? Are they a representative of an investment-adviser or a broker-dealer? Who can I talk to if I have concerns about how this person is treating me?
Path by Origin is an Internet-based adviser, which means we do not provide individual investment advice. Your primary means of contacting us and receiving our advisory services is through our website or app. If you need assistance creating an account, or have questions about an existing account, please review our Common Questions.
